Day 16, Sunday – Spass in Hamburg Pt. 2
The four of us went to Miniatur Wunderland, which features these huge intricate models of real, historical, and imagined places.
One part of Miniature Wunderland features about 20 glass cases of scenes from the same general area in Germany, and they show how it changed throughout history. The scene above, which I think is of a witch being lowered into a river from a bridge, is from this collection.
This scene depicts the end of the separation of East and West Germany at the Berlin wall.
The size and intricacy of the models was really amazing. This was of the German countryside somewhere I think.
Miniatur Wunderland included a bunch of funny Easter egg-type details, like this man hanging off the edge of the model.
This is a murder scene (you can see a man’s body in the river), which Libby’s host mom pointed out to us.
This is a model of the Swiss alps. There was even a moving ski lift that went to the top of the mountain on the left.
This is a model of the Hamburg airport, complete with planes that take off (and fly into a hole in the wall) and screens saying when the next departures and arrivals are.
Miniatur Wunderland included scenes of the United States, too, much to our delight. This is the Wild West. Note the very long line to the hot dog stand at the bottom of the photo.
This is Area 51, where aliens are playing basketball.
Las Vegas
This is Hamburg! You can see Landungsbrücken on the left and the Speicherstadt district on the right.
